REGISTRATION

Q: HOW DO I REGISTER?
A: Go to the Tely 10 Registration Page and click “REGISTER NOW.” Follow the link, and fill out the registration form in its entirety. If you need a bus pass or want to purchase an iTAB, this is the page you use to do so. You will have to select a shirt size and enter your emergency contact information. Once this form is complete, scroll to the bottom and enter your credit card information and then click submit.
Please note: There is some important information on the Tely 10 website regarding refunds, t-shirt sizing, and race kit pick-up that you should read before registering.
Q: I TRIED TO REGISTER AS A WALKER, AND THAT OPTION IS NOT AVAILABLE. WHY?

A: Tely 10 is a run/walk event, and participants are not required to run the entire distance. Walkers are welcome to register for the race provided that they can finish the course in less than three and a half hours.

The finish line will close at 11:30 am, but the roads will reopen to traffic earlier, in stages, allowing participants to maintain a pace of approximately 21 minutes per mile.

For planning purposes to help our volunteers all along the race course and finish line, including security, RNC, medical staff, and other groups involved in the race, we ask walkers to move onto the sidewalks.

Tely 10 participants are reminded that the race uses public roads that are not entirely closed to all vehicular traffic as race vehicles, residents, and emergency vehicles may still be on the road.

Q: HOW DO I KNOW MY REGISTRATION WAS RECEIVED?
A: Check your e-mail and your junk mail folder!
The registration system sends an automated confirmation e-mail if your registration successfully went through. To ensure that registration e-mails and other important communication from the 2024 Tely 10 organizers do not end up in the spam folder, please add tely10@nlaa.ca and info@trackie.com to your contact list.
Q: WHY ISN’T THE TELY 10 REGISTRATION FORM ACCEPTING MY NLAA NUMBER?
A: Only Competitive Members (Road and Track) can claim a discount. Ensure that you have the correct membership number and that it has yet to expire. Contact the NLAA office for troubleshooting.
Q: HOW MUCH DOES IT COST TO REGISTER FOR THE TELY 10?
A: The registration costs to participate in the Tely 10 varies depending on the date you register and the services you want. To see a breakdown of the registration fees, please go to the “Register” page on the Tely 10 website.
Q: WHAT IS INCLUDED IN MY REGISTRATION FEE?
A: The fees associated with Tely 10 registration cover, the online registration costs and processing fees (as it is handled by a third party and not the NLAA). It pays for the bib, chip timing, t-shirt, finishing medal, water, Gatorade, and post-race refreshments. General liability insurance for every participant on race day is also included in your registration.
Q: CAN I REGISTER ON RACE DAY?
A: NO. Due to the needs and demands that are required to put off a safe and well-organized road race, there will not be any race day registration. Once the race registration Deadline or Cap has been reached, no one else will be permitted to register.
Q: CAN I ENTER THIS RACE WITHOUT A NUMBER?
A: No. You cannot enter the Tely 10 or any other sanctioned road race without officially registering and receiving an official number. This would be unfair to other participants as they are paying for the opportunity to be part of the event. Also, the amount of water at the official water stations on the course is based on the numbers entered at the end of the Final Registration period. Course marshals and other personnel are provided for the safety of registered runners. Also, runners without numbers going through the finish chute cause confusion for finish line officials, delay the recording procedure and may result in incorrect times and places being posted.
Q: IS THERE RACE PARKING AVAILABLE?
A: No. All participants are encouraged to use the bus to the start line or carpool with someone else and get dropped off at the designated drop-off locations. These locations are close to the start, but there is no parking near the start or finish line unless you have a valid parking pass. These passes are reserved for organizers, media, and special guests. Please be advised that any vehicles not adhering to these parking restrictions may be towed at the owners’ expense.
Q: I REGISTERED BUT CANNOT RACE. CAN MY FRIEND USE MY BIB NUMBER TO PARTICIPATE?
A: No, using another person’s race number is not allowed.
Q: WHY IS THERE NO MORE IN-PERSON REGISTRATION?
A: All registrations must be completed online, including team declaration. The year 2013 marked the end of in-person registrations. This change was made to improve race management and meet the growing needs of the race. Paper registrations leave more room for human error and require that someone manually inputs the information into the registration system. There are no more Thursday evening registrations, either.
Q: WHY IS THERE A CAP ON REGISTRATIONS?
A: A cap had to be placed on the registrations accepted due to an increasing interest in the Tely 10. The more people who register, the more supplies and water are needed. In order to put off a high-quality road race, the organizers need pre-order enough materials for all participants and ensure that the safety of those participants is ensured.
Q: HOW DO I REGISTER FOR THE TEAM COMPETITION OR BATTLE OF THE BADGES?
A: All members who wish to be part of a team, or to compete in battle of the badges (corporate or otherwise), must already be registered as an individual for that year's Tely 10. You will need to click on the tab for teams, select the type of team you wish to join or add and add the names of all team members, including the person registering the team (captain).
Q: WHAT IS THE POLICY FOR REFUNDS?
A: If you register for the race but decide not to run, you leave town, get injured, or make other plans, we can grant you a refund of your registration fee as long as the refund is requested before the deadline has passed. Depending on the date you request the refund, you may receive a complete or partial refund of the registration fee. Please be advised that no refunds can be accepted after the deadline has passed and that processing fees can not be refunded at any time (REFUND POLICY).
Q: CAN I DEFER MY ENTRY TO NEXT YEAR?
A: No. There will be no deferring registrations, as per NLAA policy.
Q: CAN I SELL OR GIVE MY BIB NUMBER TO ANOTHER PERSON?
A: No. The sale and transfer of race entries/bib numbers are strictly prohibited.
Q: I MADE A MISTAKE ON MY REGISTRATION FORM; WHAT DO I DO?
A: Most registration problems can be fixed quite easily, especially if caught early. There are a couple of ways that errors and omissions can be corrected. On the confirmation email, there should be a link called “edit.” Upon clicking this link, you will be redirected to your registration form. Some, but not all, information will be available to edit. If this step does not work, or if a mistake was made on information that is not editable, you can contact the NLAA and ask for assistance.
Q: I REGISTERED TWICE. CAN I GET ONE REFUNDED?
A: Yes. If you registered more than once, please complete the online Refund Request Form with a brief explanation. Please be advised that no refunds can be accepted after the deadline has passed.
Q: CAN I SEE WHO ELSE HAS REGISTERED?
A: Yes. Follow the “Registration Confirmation” link. By doing this, you will be able to search for a first or last name or a particular city and view the names of those who are already registered.
Q: ARE WHEELCHAIR PARTICIPANTS ALLOWED TO COMPETE?
A: Yes. Wheelchair (push-rim) athletes are ranked in a separate category from runners. Please see our Wheelchair competition rules for more details.
Q: CAN I USE NORDIC WALKING POLES?
A: The use of Nordic Walking Poles is allowed under the following conditions:
  • Participants are required to register for the event they are participating in.
  • Participants agree to walk the course and not race.
  • Participants must start at the back and would only take out the poles (covered with rubber tips) once the crowd spreads out.
  • Participants will not be offered a separate competition class/category.
Q: WHY DO I NEED TO ENTER MY PREDICTED FINISH TIME?
A: By entering your predicted time, the race organizers can judge how many racers expect to finish at certain times, allowing them to be better prepared for peaks in finishers, as well as organizing the start corrals based on these times. Ex: If you expect to run the race in 2 hours, you will not be lined up with the elite athletes who expect to finish within an hour.
Q: IS THERE A FAMILY RATE?
A: No, there is no family rate.
Q: WHY DOES IT COST SO MUCH TO REGISTER?
A: There are a variety of costs associated with the race itself, including rental of facilities, purchase of awards, purchase of t-shirts, printing, rental of sound systems, purchase of safety vests for marshals, hiring of security personnel, rental of buses and venue for Awards Presentation, etc. As well, the Tely 10 is the only major source of revenue for the Newfoundland and Labrador Athletics Association (NLAA), with proceeds from this event being used to fund the various programs of the Association, such as travel for younger athletes to competitions outside the province.

RESTRICTIONS

Q: IS THERE LOWER AGE LIMIT?
A: Yes, age 15 as of December 31 in the year of the race.
Q: IS THERE A TIME LIMIT?
A: Yes! The Finish Line will close at 11:30 a.m. Roads will reopen to traffic earlier. After 10:30 a.m. Tely 10 walkers must use sidewalks along the course and obey all traffic rules. Tely 10 participants are reminded that the race uses public roads that are not entirely closed to all vehicular traffic. Race vehicles, local residents, and emergency vehicles may still be on the road.
Q: CAN I BRING A STROLLER/JOGGER, BIKE?
A: No, Baby joggers, strollers, bicycles, in-line skates, skate-boards, and like means of transportation are not permitted in the Tely 10 race for safety reasons. Violators may be subject to disqualification with no refund on entry fees.
Q: MY DOG IS MY RUNNING PARTNER, CAN HE/SHE COME?
A: Sorry but no. For the safety & comfort of our other runners, we ask that you leave your dog at home. Some people are very nervous and afraid of dogs. Having a dog in the road race will cause safety concerns for everyone else on the course. Therefore, Dogs and animals are not permitted on the course unless they are registered service animals and have obtained permission from the NLAA prior to the race. Violators may be subject to disqualification with no refund on entry fee.
Q: CAN I WEAR EARPHONES/EARBUDS WHILE RUNNING?
A: NO. As per NLAA accredited road races policy, headphones or ear buds are not permitted to be worn during any road race. They cause concern for the safety of the runner wearing them, as well as for the safety of other runners. If you are wearing headphones/ear buds, you will not be in tune with what is happening around you. Violators may be subject to disqualification.
Q: I WANT TO RUN IN THE TELY 10, BUT I DO NOT WANT MY NAME PUBLICIZED IN THE PAPER OR TO HAVE PICTURES TAKEN AND POSTED IN MEDIA. IS THIS POSSIBLE?
A: Not Entirely. The Tely 10 registration form offers the option to not have your first name printed on your bib number. Selecting this option will ensure that your name is not visibly known to other runners and spectators, but The Telegram newspaper prints all participants names, times and residing city in the newspaper, and the NLAA posts the results to their website. Also, there are TV crews, reporters, and thousands of bystanders taking pictures and videos of the race, so there is a good chance you will end up being caught on camera, even if you do not want to be. When you sign up for Tely 10 registration and accept the terms and conditions, you are acknowledging that you understand the media release and that you may have your photos used by NLAA in good taste. It is not possible to keep your race result private, as this would alter the results for all other participants.

BUS TO START AND LUGGAGE TAGS

Q: WHAT IS BUS TO START?
A: The bus to start is a service that was implemented to pick up participants at one of two designated locations (Johnson’s Insurance Building and The Confederation Building) and transport them to the start line. We encourage all participants to avail of the Bus to Start service, as it is a safe, quick, and an efficient form of transportation on race day. Participants are reminded that the main roads will be closed, and that getting near the start line may be problematic for local traffic. The Bus to Start line ticket can be purchased at the time of registration.
Q: HOW DO I PURCHASE A BUS PASS?
A: The bus ticket should be purchased when you register online. There are bus pass options available on the bottom of the registration page for two pick-up locations. If you wish to purchase a bus pass, select the check box for the location you want, and the price will be added to your registration total.
Q: I REGISTERED FOR THE RACE BUT FORGOT TO ADD A BUS PASS. CAN I STILL PURCHASE A BUSS PASS?
A: Participants can add a bus pass before the regular registration ends on June 10, 2024.
 
If you have forgotten to purchase a bus pass with your registration, you can go to your confirmation email and click the link “visit my personal dashboard.” From there, you will click “Additional Purchases”. This will bring you to your registration form, where you can select the bus pass for the location you want and pay for it with your credit card.
Q: HOW DO I KNOW IF I PURCHASED A BUS PASS?
A: Check your confirmation email; you will see if you bought a bus pass or not. If you have indeed purchased a bus ticket, a print on your bib number will indicate the bus departure location.
Q: WHAT TIME DOES THE BUS PICK UP PARTICIPANTS?
A: The bus will pick up participants on a load and go basis from 6:15-7:00am on the morning of the race. The bus will not pick up any participants en route.
Q: I PURCHASED A BUS PASS TO THE START LINE, HOW DO I GET BACK FROM THE FINISH LINE?
A: The bus to the start line doesn’t bring participants back to the start line after the race is over. Participants are to arrange to have their own ride. Often, there are family members and friends at the finish line area awaiting your arrival, so this would not usually be a concern.
Q: WHAT IS A LUGGAGE TAG?
A: Attached to he bottom of each bib, is a tearoff luggage tag with a number printed on it. This number should be the same as the number of your race bib. This tag permits you to leave your backpack/bag/supplies on the bus until the race is over. Please affix the baggage label provided to your bag and give it to the volunteer after you get off the bus. All bags must be checked into the buses by 7:45 AM. These luggage tags will be used to identify who owns what bags when they are brought to the finish line. Runners will only be given the luggage that corresponds to their bib number, so do not throw out your bib after the race.
Do not leave any valuables with your bag. Although we will do our best to see that your bag is waiting at the end of the race, we are not responsible for lost baggage. Buses will remain in the finish area until 11:30 a.m.
NLAA is not responsible for lost or stolen bags. Any bags that have not been picked up at the finish area will be brought to the NLAA Provincial Office. You will have to call the office and arrange a time to come in and get your bag. ID will be required before we can release any unclaimed bags and any bags not picked up/claimed by the Friday after the race will be donated to charity or otherwise disposed of.
Q: I AM NOT TAKING THE BUS TO START, WHERE CAN I GET DROPPED OFF?
A: Please follow this link designated drop-off locations in Paradise.

RACE KITS

Q: WHERE AND WHEN DO I PICK UP MY RACE KIT?
A: All Race Kits (bib number, T-shirt, Chip and race information) MUST be picked at the The Re/Max Centre (St. John’s Curling Club), 135 Mayor Avenue, St. John’s:
  • Thu, June 20th - 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm
  • Fri, June 21st - 11:00 am to 2:00 pm and 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm
  • Sat, June 22nd - 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm
Q: WHAT DO I NEED TO BRING WITH ME TO GET MY RACE KIT?
A: In order to get your race kit, you will need to have a government issued photo ID and/or a copy of the confirmation email that was sent to you upon registering. If you fail to show these items, you will not receive your race kit. You cannot pick up a race kit for someone else without their consent and the appropriate authorization form completed in its entirely (more information).
Q: WHAT DO I RECEIVE WITH MY RACE KIT?
A: Inside the race kit you will find a bib number and chip(with your name on the bib if you registered before the cut off date), a race t-shirt(the size and gender you selected, if before cut off date), some promotional materials from our sponsors etc.
Q: CAN I PICK UP MY RACE KIT ON RACE DAY?
A: No, there is no race kit pick-up on race day. There are designated days and times for race kit pickup. Please make sure you pick up your kit on time or have someone else do so for you with the appropriate authorization form. There is not enough time on race morning to distribute left over race kits that were not picked up.
Q: CAN SOMEONE PICK UP MY RACE KIT FOR ME?
A: Yes! Someone may come to the pick up location on your behalf and pick up your race kit as long as you provide us with a completed authorization form and photo ID. If this form is not provided, we cannot let that person take the kit. NLAA reserves the right to withhold race kits based on insufficient information or incomplete authorization forms (more information).
Q: MY SON/DAUGHTER IS REGISTERED TO RUN, BUT DOES NOT HAVE A PICTURE ID, HOW WILL HE/SHE GET THE RACE KIT?
A: If your son or daughter has registered and they do not have photo ID, you will need to go to the help desk and provide them with proof of identification (MCP, Hospital card, school id, passport etc.), as well as proof of registration. After reviewing the information, the help desk will approve or deny the race kit to be released.
Q: WHAT DO I DO WITH THE BIB NUMBER ONCE I GET MY KIT?
A: Do not remove the timing chip from your bib. Do not fold your bib or excessively bend or twist the tag/chip. On race morning, affix your bib on your chest/abdomen so the number is completely visible. The timing chip that is attached to the back of your bib corresponds with the number on your bib. Do not lose your chip or peel it off. If you do not have a chip when you cross the finish line, you will not have a finishing time.
Q: WILL YOU MAIL ME MY RACE KIT IF I CANNOT ATTEND THE RACE?
A: No, the race kits will not be mailed out to any participant who did not attend the race. This would be very costly. If you registered but did not plan on running the race, you should pick up your race kit during the designated race kit pick up times. Race kits that are not picked up by Saturday before the race will be disposed of or donated.
Q: DO I HAVE TO WEAR THE RACE SHIRT PROVIDED?
A: No, the t-shirt that was in the race kit is a souvenir from your experience at the Tely 10. Many people do choose to wear these on race day, however, it is completely optional and you may wear whatever you feel comfortable in.

START LINE & COURSE

Q: WHERE IS THE START LINE?
A: On Topsail Rd, near the Octagon Pond, approximately two miles past the Donovan’s Overpass. Runners are advised that Topsail Road in the immediate area of the starting point will be closed to motor vehicles (more information).
Q: HOW WILL THE STARTING AREA BE ORGANIZED?
A: The starting area on will be organized into a number of starting corrals each bearing a sign indicating an anticipated finishing time. Runners should enter only the corral of their anticipated finish time. Only competitive runners expecting to run the race in less than 60 minutes should occupy the front corral. Runners expecting to run under 65 minutes should occupy the next corral and so on. A twenty minute warning of Start Time will be given by the Starting Official, at which time all participants should move into their corrals. This will be followed by a ten minute warning at which time all participants should be in the starting corrals. Please exercise due caution at the start of the race especially as you cross the timing mats at the Start Line. Each runner must step on these mats in order to have his/her time recorded.
Q: WHEN SHOULD I PLAN TO ARRIVE AT THE START LINE?
A: You should plan to arrive early, as traffic will be congested in the start line area. The race starts at 8:00 am sharp, so plan to be there for 7:00-7:30 am.
Q: HOW LONG IS THE RACE?
A: The Tely 10 is a ten mile road race, which converts to 16.093 kilometres.
Q: WHAT IS THE RACE COURSE ROUTE?
A: The race starts on Topsail Road in the Town of Paradise. Runners proceed eastward on Topsail Road, Cornwall Avenue, LeMarchant Road, Harvey Road, and turn sharply left off Military Road at the Colonial Building, onto the left lane of Bannerman Road. The finish line is at the Bannerman Park Pool, approximately 200 meters beyond the turn (more information).
Q: IS THE COURSE MARKED?
A: Yes, there are official mile markers along the course. These markers are on the right side of the road and are clearly visible to all participants.
Q: IS THE COURSE MARSHALLED?
A: Yes, police vehicles, emergency personnel, and designated race marshals will patrol the course. Race marshals with reflective vests will be stationed at most intersections to direct runners and control traffic.
Q: IS THE COURSE FLAT?
A: Not quite. There is a small portion at the beginning of the race that is elevated, but most of the race is on flat land, and maybe considered even a little downhill. There are three small hills along the course.
Q: WHERE ARE THE NO PARKING - TOW AWAY ZONES?
A: 6:00 A.M. TO 12:00 NOON

Q: WHERE DO I GO ONCE I CROSS THE FINISH LINE?
A: Once you cross the finish, you should slow down and keep walking towards the softball field into the finishing chute. Bottled water (ONE for each runner) and a “goody bag” will be handed to you as you exit the chute. Portable toilets, a medical station, and refreshments will be available to all participants. Once you receive these, please move some distance from the area to allow other runners room to exit the chute.

SERVICES

Q: ARE THERE SHOWER FACILITIES AVAILABLE AFTER THE RACE?
A: No, due to limited space at the finish area and softball field, we will not offer this service. Sorry for any inconvenience that this may cause.
Q: WILL THERE BE FINISH LINE PHOTOS?
A: Yes, we will have photographers set up at Bannerman Park to take pictures at the finish line and at the Awards Stage.
Q: HOW CAN I TRAIN FOR THE TELY 10?
A: The NLAA recommends and endorses the training programs by Jason White (Personal Trainer). He has designed three 12-week beginner, intermediate, and walking training schedules for participants of the Tely 10. These training schedules can be found on the Tely 10 website.
Q: ARE THERE BATHROOMS ALONG THE COURSE?
A: Yes. Washrooms will be available near the start line. Portable toilets will also be available throughout the race course and at the finishing area.
Q: HOW MANY WATER STATIONS ARE THERE?
A: Water stations and Gatorade stations are located at approximately the 2.5-mile, the 5-mile, the 7.5-mile and the 9-mile points and at the start and finish line. Race participants are requested not to linger at the water tables as this may impede other runners in their attempts to receive water. Several tables will be set up at each station to make water access easier for everyone. These tables will be separated by several meters. Please take your water cup with you and move well away from the tables if you wish to stop and drink for a few moments. Remember some people are running for personal bests and may not appreciate congestion at the water tables. Gatorade will be available at the first table at the 5-mile station, and the first table at the 7.5-mile station.
Q: DO YOU OFFER FINISH LINE MASSAGES?
A: Due to limited space at the finish area, this service is not offered.

GENERAL

Q: WHERE DOES THE MONEY COLLECTED FROM THE TELY 10 GO?
A: As the Newfoundland and Labrador Athletics Association (NLAA) is a not-for-profit organization, proceeds from the Tely 10 registrations help to pay for the cost incurred during the race preparation and the remaining proceeds will benefit NLAA programs throughout the year. These proceeds ensure that the NLAA can continue to offer quality track and field/cross-country/road races events for children/youth/teens/adults of Newfoundland and Labrador.
Q: WHAT ARE THE TELY 10 RECORDS?
A: Paul McCloy holds the men’s record - 47:04 (1985)
Anne Johnston holds the women’s record - 54:25 (2019)
Q: WHERE CAN I FIND MY RACE RESULT AFTER THE RACE?
A: Race results will be posted to the NLAA/Tely 10 website following the completion of the Tely 10. The Telegram, Newfoundland’s newspaper publishers and sponsor for the Tely 10, will also be publishing the results in their local paper.
Q: WHEN IS NEXT YEAR’S TELY 10?
A: The next Tely 10 Races are tentatively scheduled for June 22, 2025; June 28, 2026; and June 27, 2027.
Q: DO YOU HAVE OTHER ROAD RACES?
A: Yes, as we are the provincial governing body for Athletics in Newfoundland and Labrador, we sanction many road races annually from April to November. For a complete list of our accredited road races for 2024, please visit nlaa.ca and look through the competition calendar.
Q: WHAT’S A BANDIT?
A: A bandit is someone running a race who didn’t register. Please don’t do this. If you do, please don’t cross the finish, or take any aid from aid stations or post-race goodies. Those are for the participants who have officially registered and paid for these services.

TIMING

Q: WHY ARE THE TIMES DIFFERENT FOR GUN TIME AND CHIP TIME?
A: Gun Time is the official time. All race placing awards are based on gun time (the time from the start of the race (gun) to when you cross the finish line as per IAAF, Athletics Canada, USATF, AIMS and International Awards standards). These times may differ based on if and when the participant touched the timing mat at the start line, if the participant or someone close to the participant wears headphones (which is prohibited), or had an electronic device that would interfere with the chip timing. Chip timing is purely for the participants personal interest to track their performance. Chip times will be shown in the online results.
Q: WHERE DO I GET MY CHIP? DO I RETURN IT?
A: When you pick up your race kit, there will be a chip attached to the back of the bib number. Do not peel it off or remove it. These chips do not need to be returned as the chip number corresponds to the bib number you get. Once an athlete crosses the finish line, the chips transponder sends your timing information to the time recorder system, along with the information pertaining to the registration of said chip. If you cross the finish line without a chip on your bib, you will have no recorded time. Also, please make sure you touch the mats at the start and finish line. These chips are activated through electromagnetic waves. If you do not touch the mats, there will be errors in the chip timing.
Q: WILL THE CHIP TIME BE PUBLISHED IN THE RESULTS?
A: Yes, although the gun time is the official time, we will post the chip time results online also.

Q: HEAT EXHAUSTION AND DEHYDRATION ARE NOT UNCOMMON, WHAT CAN I DO TO PREVENT THIS FROM HAPPENING?
A: The Tely10 committee and NLAA have taken all necessary precautions and safety measures to ensure the race runs smoothly with minimal problems. While we cannot control the weather on any given day, participants are asked to keep in mind that the temperatures can change quickly, and that there are plenty of water stations, water cups, and cooling stations available to keep all runners from becoming dehydrated. It is up to each individual athlete to listen to his or her body for signs of distress. Training in all weather conditions(including sun and hot temperatures)will help participants acclimatize, and understand what to expect on race day.
Q: WILL THERE BE MEDICAL HELP AVAILABLE?
A: Medical personnel will be available to assist at any time during the race. Please note: Medical staff may request any runner to withdraw from the race for medical or safety reasons.
Q: I HAVE A MEDICAL CONDITION, WHAT IF SOMETHING HAPPENS WHILE I AM RACING?
A: On the back of your bib number, there is a section for medical information. Please ensure that you fill this out in its entirety. In the case of a medical emergency, this information would be helpful to medical responders in determining the problem and appropriate treatment.

AWARDS

Q: IS THERE AN AWARDS CEREMONY?
A: Yes. The awards ceremony takes place at Bannerman Park Softball Field, after the race. Awards will be presented for the Top 5 overall runners, the top 3 male and female participants in each age category, as well as the Corporate Team Awards, Open Team Awards, NLAA Club Awards, and Battle of the Badges Awards. Also, there will be a presentation for the Dr. John Williams Award and a presentation for those eligible to receive Tely 10 Commemorative Pins.
Q: WHAT PRIZES ARE AWARDED TO THE FINISHERS?
A: A total of $3,700 will be distributed to the top 5 overall male and female runners to cross the finish line. The top three in each age category will also receive a gold, silver, or bronze medal engraved with their placing for that particular age group. Each participant who crosses the finish line will receive a beautiful finishers medal. There will be an online certificate of achievement for each registered participant, available approximately a month after the completion of the race.
Q: DO I NEED TO STAY FOR THE AWARDS CEREMONY?
A: No. Once the race is completed, you are free to leave whenever you wish. However, if you receive an award, you may want to stay to accept it.
Q: I AM ELIGIBLE FOR A COMMEMORATIVE PIN THIS YEAR, WHEN AND WHERE DO I RECEIVE MY PIN?
A: All awards and medals will be presented at the Awards Ceremony. These awards usually start around 10:00 AM in the Bannerman Park Softball Field. Anyone eligible to receive their pin should be present at this presentation (more information).
Q: I WAS UNABLE TO ATTEND THE AWARDS CEREMONY, AND DID NOT RECEIVE MY AWARD OR MEDAL. WHAT SHOULD I DO?
A: In the event that you have won an award, but did not attend the Awards Ceremony to get your award, medal, or pin, please contact the NLAA Provincial Office by email at nlaaoffice@gmail.com or call (709)576-1303 to reserve your award and make arrangements to come get it.

RACE DAY

Q: THIS IS MY FIRST RACE, DO YOU HAVE ANY TIPS?
A: Don’t stress yourself out about the race, cover the route beforehand to become familiar with it, rest and relax the day before, lay out your clothing the night before and attach your bib, arrive early, stretch and warm up, start slow and pace yourself, and most importantly, have fun!
Q: WHAT SHOULD I WEAR?
A: Racers should be prepared to race in any weather conditions. However, if it is expected to be warm and humid, avoid layering clothing. Wear a light, breathable fabric to allow sweat to evaporate. Don’t wear anything that will restrict you, or interfere with other runners.
Q: WHAT IF I CANNOT FINISH THE RACE IN THE TIME ALLOTTED?
A: 3½ hours is plenty enough time for even the slower paced walkers to finish the 10 mile course. The time restriction is not made to exclude anyone from the race, but rather to meet the high demands that we are faced with for volunteers and organizers. It takes a lot of manpower and time to clue up the race course/finish area/ballfield. We cannot do these things until the race is over and we do not want to waste the time of our dedicated volunteers.
Q: WHAT KIND OF WEATHER CAN I EXPECT ON RACE DAY?
A: Newfoundland weather can be very unpredictable. Although June can generally feel cold and breezy, the daily temperature increase towards the end of the month.  Daily high temperatures increase by 5 ℃, from 13 ℃ to 18 ℃, rarely falling below 6 ℃ or exceeding 24 ℃.  Daily low temperatures increase by 5 ℃, from 5 ℃ to 10 ℃, rarely falling below 1 ℃ or exceeding 15 ℃.

SPECTATORS

Q: IS THERE ANY SEATING AVAILABLE TO WATCH THE RACE?
A: No, there is no available seating, spectators usually line off the gate at the finish line to watch the race.
Q: WHERE CAN I WATCH THE RACE?
A: Finish Area and Family Reunion. Family reunion is the place for race participants to meet their friends and family after the race. The family reunion area is on the Softball Field in Bannerman Park. Family and friends are also invited to view the finish of the race from Government House grounds which have been made available to us with the gracious permission of The Honourable Joan Marie J. Aylward, O.N.L., Lieutenant Governor of Newfoundland and Labrador. The bottom of Bannerman Road will be closed to spectators again this year as the finish area is being expanded to accommodate the larger numbers completing the Tely 10.
Q: WHERE SHOULD I PLAN TO MEET UP WITH MY FRIENDS/FAMILY AFTER THE RACE?
A: There will be an awards ceremony taking place on the Bannerman Park Ball Field following the race. Family and friends are welcome to join the participants here.
Q: IS THERE ANY TRANSPORTATION FOR SPECTATORS?
A: Free Park and Ride for friends and spectators: Park and Ride shuttle service will be available on Tely 10 day from 8:00 am to Noon. The shuttle bus will run from Confederation Building to Empire Ave. The purpose of the service is to bring spectators to the race and to bring spectators and runners back from the finish to Confederation Building.
