Highlights of the Rules

  • Must qualify through a School Meet. Proof of participation is mandatory: Each meet convenor is required to forward a complete set of results to the NLAA Office immediately after the completion of their meet.
     
  • Only athletes that have finished in 3rd place or better in any one event and age-group are eligible to advance to the Provincial Final. Athletes that have finished below 3rd place are not be eligible to participate in the Provincial Final even if a child placed in the top 3 is unable to compete.
     
  • A participant entering the 2010 Provincial Final may only compete in the event(s) that he/she has qualified. Example: if an athlete qualifys to the Provincial Final for standing long jump, he/she cannot enter in the softball throw event. Athletes that have qualified for the Provincial Final can enter in no more than three events (this may be two running events - includes relays - and a field event OR two field events and a running event). A participant may NOT compete in three running events.
     
  • Only athletes that have qualified through the School Meet can enter the Provincial Final.
     
  • A participant´s age is as of December 31, 2010
    •   9 & 10 Year Olds -- (born in 2000 or 2001)
    • 11 & 12 Year Olds -- (born in 1998 or 1999)
    • 13 & 14 Year Olds -- (born in 1996 or 1997)
    A participant must compete in his/her age group and gender division.
     
  • Participants may not wear shoes designated for spikes. In field events, any shoes designed for turf sports are not allowed.
     
  • Participants may not compete in their bare feet, slippers or socks.
     
  • Starting blocks are not permitted.
     
  • A participant may compete in up to three events (this may be two running events (includes relays) and a field event OR two field events and a running event). A participant may not compete in three running events. A athlete may only compete in the event(s) that he/she has qualified.
     
  • A participant will be disqualified for unsportsmanlike conduct. He/she may not participate further in that meet and will lose any previous earned awards.
     
  • Times will be recorded to the nearest 100th of a second and distances will be measured in feet and inches to the nearest one quarter inch (except in Canada).
     
  • In the event of a tie that results in more than 3 athletes becoming eligible to advance to the Provincial Final, there must be a run-off for the running event. In the field events the contestant with the best second throw or jump will be declared the winner. Then, if necessary, the third best performance will resolve the tie.
     
  • Each running competitor is allowed one false start.
     
  • In Softball throw and Standing Long Jump each competitor is allowed three (3) trials.
     
  • All local meet winners must have their age verified at the local level competition.
     
  • In the relay, the acceleration zone will not be used and aids may not be used.
     
  • A competitor should be excused from a field event so that he/she may participate in a running event. The individual shall return to the field event immediately following the completion of that running event.
     
  • A participant may enter only one school meet.
     
  • A participant must participate in the province in which he/she resides.
     
  • Lane and position can be drawn by chance or seeded.
     
  • Provincial meets will be held rain or shine.
